On the Cultural Front

Idu Mishmi from what i know loves their culture. It is heartening to see people in all walks of life dressing in their traditional attire. Comes Reh or Kameha, old & young, male & female all come dressed in their colourful traditional dresses. But sadly, the most important of all, language is rather a very sorry affair. The Master of Ceremony/Compere will either announce in Hindi or English. Not a single word is being said in Idu Language during the cultural function organized on these occasions. Yes very fluent Hindi & English, Great!
From what I think, Language is the life & soul of any culture. Now we hear Idu Language is endangered. we feel sorry about it. Are we doing anything about it?! I have not seen any literature in idu language. Magazines, newspapers books name it. Is the Idu language only to be used in the villages? When u come to Roing it has to be Hindi, Assamese, Nepali, English etc.
See the Adis (Padam), they are conversing in their mother tongue! They can share secrets in public! But so sad this is not the case for the idus.
cam someone come out and publish a mazazines/a newspapers/books/comics in the local dialect! otherwise i will start my own.
I am sure this will help in the preservation of our culture. There are two newspapers- weekly in Roing. Its good that such initiative is being done. It will be better from the cultural preservation point of view that the papers have a column in the local dialect.
we take pride that our language is endangered and is known at the international level-United Nation. At times it made me doubt that some vested interest is being at play. In the name of being endangered we get funds for documenting and preserving the language.
I am writing this not to accuse any one of false play. Just concern that's all.
Let's discuss on this issue-idu language for now. Inviting all Idus-young and old to contribute and arrive at an action plan-which will be put up to the concerned authority for further action.
Enne Kebaa lahido hai, eneya chi akobe-aazo hai, thogene-bagane wuhimida wuge hone praye. Echa eyeche hai yapra phimme akhagago nuya rayeme agawiji, enechi thou-baa bhi ajiwiji yawe. Aayene ene keraa lahido hai echa-thoupu-bapuwu hai kabane wubo- lambo hone prawe.
